      MIAMI, FL---Despite the events of September 11, overall freight tonnage grew one percent during Year 2001 at Miami International Airport, aided by year-long growth in domestic freight tonnage, according to statistics released by the Miami- Dade Aviation Department.

     Domestic freight soared to a new height during December, reaching 58 percent for 39,428 tons. This strong growth began in May 2000 and reached double-digit figures in 2001. During 2001 this growth was fueled by heightened operations by FedEx and UPS and occurred despite an aviation industry downturn stemming from the September 11 tragedies. </description>

      MIAMI ? Effective March 4, 2002, international passengers arriving at Miami International Airport (MIA) will be able to leave the Federal Inspection Services (FIS) area with their self-service luggage carts.  
&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;
     Currently, arriving international passengers have access to free self-service carts in the FIS to facilitate their movement through federal processing.  However, once they exit into the international greeters? lobby, they must surrender their free cart and must either carry their own bags, use the services of a skycap (a service provided under a management agreement to the Miami-Dade Aviation Department by NFL International Porter Services, Inc.) or locate and rent another self-service cart.  </description>
